About Dr. Shea

Dr. Michael Shea was born in San Jose, California. He began his collegiate studies in biology at the University of San Diego before completing his degree at Santa Clara University. Dr. Shea studied medicine at the American University in Coral Gables, FL, earning my doctorate. Following graduation, He completed residency training at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, CA and UPMC St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

While in Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Michael Shea realized his passion for orthopedics. He went on to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA. Dr. Michael Shea has extensive experience in sports medicine, ranging from his sports medicine fellowship to his sideline physician coverage for multiple sports. He specializes in non-surgical orthopedics such as joint arthritis including hyaluronic acid (gel) injections, as well as sports medicine which involves the evaluation and treatment of fractures and sports related injuries.

Dr. Michael Shea has expanded his expertise to ultrasound guided injections of corticosteroids and platelet rich plasma (PRP) as well as hydrodistension for frozen shoulders.

He has volunteered as a physician for sports at the high school and state levels, as well as being a ringside physician at boxing and kickboxing tournaments. Dr. Michael Shea has been involved in multiple Residency training programs, teaching second- and third-year residents in the practice of sports medicine.

Dr. Michael Shea is married and has two sons and a rescue puppy. He lives with his family in Folsom, CA and enjoys all that northern California has to offer in the outdoors. When he is not working, Dr. Michael Shea enjoys boating, wakeboarding, snowboarding, and fishing with his children.
